MY EXPERIENCE GETTING THE PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) TREATMENT AT AMNM

As you all already know, I have recently started my skin care journey with ALFARDAN MEDICAL WITH NORTHWESTERN MEDICINE and I have been seeing Dr Ali Soueid, a plastic surgeon and skin specialist from the last few months.

I have taken several treatments including carbon laser treatment, full body hair laser removal treatment and recently, I took the PRP treatment. I can already see a huge change in the appearance of my skin and Iam really happy with the results I’ve been seeing.

Iam gonna share a detailed article about the laser hair removal and the carbon laser treatment soon, but today is all about my experience with the PRP treatment.

When I told Dr Soud about my concerns over my large pores, uneven skin tone, scars and the acne marks on my face, he suggested that I start with two treatments; the first being the carbon laser treatment and the second being the PRP treatment.

PRP improves skin texture and tone, regenerates collagen, helps in reducing wrinkles and lines, tackles blemishes, improves scarring and restores a healthy, youthful glow. Basically, everything I wanted for my face.

Dr. Ali Soueid explained that the PRP treatment ‘involves extracting blood from a patient's arm and using a centrifuge to separate the platelets and plasma from the red blood cells.’

1. Blood drawn: You would have a small amount of blood (about 2 to 4 tablespoons) drawn from your arm.

2. Blood taken to lab: The test tube containing your blood would be placed in a medical device called a centrifuge, which separates your blood into layers. One of these layers contains a high concentration of platelets.

3. Blood injected: The dermatologist then injects the blood that contains the high concentration of platelets into your face or scalp, using a syringe.

For the people like me (having sensitive skin), applying numbing cream over the face around 30-45 minutes before taking the treatment is the best solution to feel less pain or discomfort.

One of my biggest hurdles is the fact that I’m extremely squeamish when it comes to blood. But it wasn’t an issue as during the drawing of blood and throughout the treatment, I simply chose to keep my eyes closed.

Does a PRP treatment hurt?

That’s one of the main questions I was asked on my insta stories when I posted about my experience with the PRP treatment. Honestly, no – I can’t say that it hurt.

At times, there was a sense of discomfort while the fluid was being injected back into my face. For the people who have received fillers or botox in their face before, it’s basically the same feeling. And I have super sensitive skin and a very negative and prominent imagination going on in my head, when two words come together; blood and injections. So, for me, it was a little more uncomfortable as compared to others, as many of my friends have mentioned that taking this treatment was a normal experience for them. They said that it wasn’t painful or discomforting for them. Also, the method used for taking the PRP treatment plays a huge role in terms of how painful it is and how long the downtime for the skin is, as you might experience a little swelling and bruising on the face after the treatment. The swelling goes off within 24 hours, but the bruising might take around 4 days to a few weeks to go. But, if you get this treatment done at AMNM, you have a chance of reducing your skin’s downtime, as Dr Soud uses a special technique developed by him to optimize delivery and reduce downtime with decreased discomfort and minimal complications.

Dr Soueid uses fine cannulas inserted through 1mm incisions. He needs only 2 of these incisions on each side of the face to deliver up to 5ml of PRP (plus mesotherapy if needed).

After harvesting the blood sample and processing it in the laboratory, PRP extract gets acquired. By delivering the PRP using this technique, the liquid can now release the growth factors to be effective against not only the skin but also the underlying fibrous layer of the face called the SMAS layer. It is this layer in fact that is the main contributor to looking tired and ptosis of the face. Allowing the PRP to work on this layer as well as the skin helps to tighten the face giving longer lasting results. Injecting directly in between the skin and SMAS, the PRP has access to the overlying skin and underlying SMAS. The PRP is injected in a fatty layer of the face making the procedure painless. By using only two 1mm incisions, there will be no bruising and no downtime.

So after the treatment, I did see some swelling, but only for a day. I also had a bruise on my face which was more prominent the day after I got the treatment, but it disappeared after 2-3 days.

As for the results, I was told I will be able to see visible results after 2-3 weeks, but honestly I felt that my skin was looking better after just 5 days. I clearly could notice an enhanced skin tone and texture, softening of my stretch marks, increased skin firmness and tightness, reduction of hyperpigmentation and pore size AND improvement of my skin texture and the appearance of my scars.

I will also continue taking 2 more sessions of PRP treatment as I have a friend who already did this treatment and I’ve seen some magical results on her skin. I was very impressed with the results she got and had made up my mind to take this treatment ASAP as the results of taking 3-4 sessions shows very youthful skin along with some features like

* Plumping up sagging skin

* Reducing wrinkles

* Getting rid of deep creases

* Improving one’s complexion

* Diminishing acne scars.

I will update you all about the results of this treatment again once I complete 3-4 more sessions, but for now, this treatment is a big yes from me to the people  who are looking for some good skin treatment which can actually show the desirable results. For extra care and an amazing experience, you can get this treatment done at ALFARDAN MEDICAL WITH NORTHWESTERN MEDICINE in Lusail as they have a team of experts who are very competent.
